PlaNYC 2.0

In April 2011, Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced the release of PlaNYC 2.0, the updated version of the ambitious plan first issued in 2007 to reduce New York City's greenhouse gas emissions and make the city a leader in sustainability. The plan's long-term goals include creating more parks and open spaces, expanding our vital mass transit network, and reducing New York City's carbon footprint by 30% by the year 2030. Since 2005, citywide greenhouse gas emissions are down 12% and city government's emissions are down nearly 5% in the last fiscal year.

Since the initial launch, significant progress has been made and many new items have been added, such as studies on electric vehicles and the launch of the “Greener ,Greater Buildings Plan” which requires buildings to benchmark energy use.  As of the plan’s latest progress report (April 2010) 25 percent of taxis have been converted to hybrid power, 320,000 trees have been planted, and 200 miles of bikeways have been created across the city

Con Edison continues its partnership with the New York Restoration Project (NYRP) and the Department of Parks and Recreation to help fulfill the Mayor's goal of planting one million new trees across the city by 2017.  Funding for the program is generated through Con Edison's *e-bill program. The company donates $1 to NYRP for each customer that switches to paperless billing.
